The Frances E. and Peter B.
Read Award
Honoring Those Who Go Above and Beyond
Some people give their time. Others give their energy, talents, gardens, and ideas — and inspire others to give theirs.
The Frances E. and Peter B. Read Award honors exceptional volunteers whose commitment to The HORT goes far beyond ordinary service. It recognizes those whose generosity, leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication have made a lasting difference to our organization and the horticultural community of the Lowcountry.

About the Award
Honoring a Tradition of Giving
Established in 2007, the award is named for Frances E. and Peter B. Read, among The HORT’s earliest and most devoted supporters. Fran and Peter were the first recipients of the award, recognized for the countless ways they gave their time, energy, and support to the Charleston Horticultural Society.
Their example established the spirit behind the award: stepping forward when something needs to be done, sharing knowledge and enthusiasm, welcoming others, opening gardens and homes, championing The HORT’s mission, and inspiring others to become involved.
A Legacy of Service
Honoring Those Who have Given So Much
Since 2007, the Frances E. and Peter B. Read Award has recognized extraordinary volunteers whose generosity, dedication, and service have made a lasting difference to The HORT and Charleston's horticultural community.
