Want to turn heads in the shadiest corners of your garden? Farfugium japonicum ‘Giganteum’ is prized for its oversized, glossy green leaves that bring bold texture and a lush, almost tropical look to the landscape.

In fall, clusters of bright yellow, daisy-like flowers rise above the foliage, adding an unexpected burst of color. ‘Giganteum’ is the largest of the commonly grown Farfugium varieties and can reach approximately 3 to 4 feet tall.

Plant it in part shade to shade in rich soil with consistent moisture. It’s especially well suited to shady borders, woodland gardens, containers, and areas near ponds or water features. Too much direct sun can cause the large leaves to wilt or burn, particularly in our warm Southern climate.

Good to Know: Farfugium is not native to South Carolina. The species is native to parts of eastern Asia, including Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.
