About the event

Lunch & Learn Field Trip: Native Plants & Conservation at the Black River Cypress Preserve

With Dana Beach

Join us for a special Lunch & Learn experience with renowned conservationist Dana Beach, as we explore the rich biodiversity and ecological restoration efforts at the stunning Black River Cypress Preserve.

Dana will lead us on a journey—both in the field and through imagery—sharing highlights from a recently completed botanical survey of the preserve, which showcases three distinct native plant communities: the ancient cypress/tupelo swamp forest, the majestic longleaf pine savannah, and the lush bottomland hardwood swamp. You’ll gain insight into the restoration of the upland pine savannah, including the return of fire-dependent grassland understory species, all part of a broader effort by Butler Parklands to restore and protect native ecosystems.
