Hello Horticultural Lovers!

Are you an avid gardener, plant enthusiast, or an ardent environmentalist looking for ways to put your interests and talents to good use?

Perhaps you are looking for opportunities to meet like-minded people and utilize your business skills and knowledge while helping to serve the community in which you live.

Why not do both?  

The Charleston Horticultural Society (the HORT) is currently accepting applications/nominations to fill two to four vacancies on our Board of Directors.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and make a difference as the HORT seeks to expand its mission and commitment to better serve the Lowcountry.

The HORT Board is a diverse group of individuals whose horticultural expertise and passion, business acumen, community contacts, and historical knowledge of the Charleston area and its many resources are of vital import to the overall success of the Organization. 

Board Members must be committed to the HORT’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.

Desired skills and attributes for potential Board Members include a passion for building Charleston’s horticultural community and experience in one or more of the following key areas:

  • horticultural education

  • marketing

  • financial management

  • strategic planning

  • fundraising

  • technological or communications expertise

Preference will be given to active members and business partners, including former Board members. Please complete our online application no later than May 15, 2024.

More abouT HORT Board of Directors & Nomination

The Mission of the Charleston Horticultural Society is to provide quality educational programming that supports efforts, both big and small, to create beautiful, sustainable green spaces; fosters community partnerships; and preserves our legacy of horticulture in the South Carolina Lowcountry. 

Board members will serve for a term of three years commencing with the new fiscal year on July 1, 2024. Board members must make a financial gift to CHS of not less than $500 per fiscal year. Board members must regularly prepare for; attend; and participate in at least 80% of Board meetings. Board members must agree to and sign the "Board Member Expectations Policy and Pledge" (see attached) as a condition of their appointment to the Board. 

Please use this form to nominate an individual to the Board. Self-nomination is welcome. All nominations will be reviewed by the Board and applicants may be contacted by the Board for an interview, if needed. 

The nomination form must be completed and returned by April 30, 2024 to be considered.
