Indigo Dyeing: Kitchen Blues with Kelly Fort

As you know, we never shy away from getting our hands dirty, especially when it involves a vibrant burst of color! Last Saturday afternoon , our indigo dyeing workshop had everyone feeling like magical potion-makers. Participants gathered around, their eyes wide with anticipation as our expert instructor Kelly Fort of Pluff Mudd Farms explained the ancient process. We were handed bundles of fabric, eager to see how they would transform. With potions brewing in giant vats, laughter echoing through the air, and blue staining fingertips, it was a whimsical sight. As we dipped our fabric into the indigo dye, the suspense was palpable. And just like that, a wave of enchantment swept over the workshop as shades of blue emerged like a secret garden coming to life. Each person marveled at their unique creations, a kaleidoscope of indigos, from deep ocean blues to sky-like hues. It was a day where we not only learned a centuries-old craft but also discovered the true magic that lies within the Charleston Horticultural Society. Tangled up in Blue, we would say.
